On 18th May, the Malta Communications Authority organised the first Digital Services Forum with the theme “Implementing the Digital Services Act: Opportunities and Challenges for Social Welfare in Malta”. The forum was attended by representatives from key entities including the Foundation for Social Welfare Services (FSWS), Appogg, the Malta Police Force, the Education Department, the Ministry for Education and Employment, the National Commission for the Promotion of Equality (NCPE), Ministry For Social Policy And Children’s Rights, and Agenzija Sapport.
The focus of the forum was the Digital Services Act (DSA), its relevance to social welfare in Malta, and the creation of a safer, more transparent digital environment. The protection of vulnerable groups and the removal of illegal content from online platforms were areas of particular emphasis.
The forum also featured a briefing on the BeSmartOnline project, demonstrating its role in promoting safer internet use and providing a practical example of the potential role of a trusted Flagger.
Participants engaged in discussions, shared insights, and considered strategies for taking advantage of the DSA provisions.
